The Value of the Dead! (a re-post from byrdsword.com May 21, 2020)

As we approach ‘twice’ the number of ‘dead’ from the ‘Virus’, over a period of exactly four months, than we accumulated from the ‘Vietnam Fiasco’ where do we go from here? The 58,000 dead from the ‘Vietnam’ thing were killed over a period of 16 years, give or take, for a total of 5,856 days with an average death rate of about 10 per day. The 10 daily dead created ‘outrage’ and mass demonstrations in the ‘Homeland’, and political upheaval. The ‘reported deaths’ from the Virus in the US (the Homeland) is at this moment an average of 791 per day. And yes, there are protests and demonstrations. The most common thread of the protests are not outrage over the death rate, its ‘I'm not going to stay home’, or ‘my constitutional rights says I can go to the bar if I want to’ and/or, no ‘I’m not going to wear a facemask’, and I don't care if I make you sick’. To start with, there is no ‘constitutional right’ that gives anyone the ‘right’ to defy an order that protects the general welfare. It's like refusing to register for the military draft! You can refuse, but ‘hello jail’. As far as the ‘outrage’ is concerned, maybe it is because the ‘Vietnam heroes’ were fairly young, while many of the victims of the Virus are just the remnants of the Greatest Generation! The foremost cause for outrage over the Virus, is the early mishandling of the epidemic, which instead of getting better, is getting worse as time goes by. No one seems to pay any attention to the fact that most of the ‘spread of the Virus’, is travel related. Yes, the Passenger Airlines are still flying, face masks are still optional, there is no ‘formula for occupancy’ in public buildings, i.e., X number of people in X number of square feet, and the testing capacity is still reserved for the bureaucrats, or the death bed ill. There are many ‘scars’ from the ‘Virus’ America will have to live with, one we can already see is the 20% added to the National Debt by the stroke of a pen, with more to come. The adage ‘Money can't buy happiness’, could be joined by ‘Money can't alter the death rate’. Have a nice day!
