Inflation? or Old Fashioned Greed!
In January of 2021 Good Old Joe, the poor man's friend, triggered the Avalanche by putting the freeze on the Oil industry. And it was only a ‘heartbeat’ before all the ‘opportunists’ jumped on. It's not only national, it's also local, right here in Magic Valley. Checking ads on Craigslist a few days ago I saw one ad that read “3 by 4 baled cornstalks $200.00 per bale”. As a 3 by 4 bale of cornstalks would be hard pressed to weigh over half ton, that figures out $400.00 per ton for cornstalks. That's more than they got for the corn! And take eggs, as another example, $5.28 per dozen at the “low price leader”. I don't know how many ‘slips’ there are between the ‘cup and the lip’, but the U.S.D.A. says there is just as many laying hens as there were ‘in 2018’ but some of the egg production might be diverted to hatching eggs. In any event, these folks have jumped on the inflation and greed wagon, along with many thousands more!
